The El Toro Chargers with QB Brett Johnson took on the Capistrano Valley Cougars led by Todd Marinovich. An overflowing crowd of thousands were on hand at CVHS for this much hyped game. Mission Viejo Diablos vs Capistrano Valley Cougars 1987 Classic Posted: Oct 20, 2011 The Mission Viejo Diablos and the Capistrano Valley Cougars squared off in 1987 for the South Coast League Championship. Todd Marinovich breaks the all time high school passing record but Mission Viejo upsets the Cougars in front of 7000 fans at Capistrano Valley High School. Jeff Pease of Mission Viejo led the Diablo defense in this thriller of a game. No doubt, 1987 was one of the best years in South Orange County Football history. It was a great game that went down to the final play. San Clemente Running back Terrell Johnson received the Most Valuable Offensive Player while Dana Hills' Trent Mason received honors for the Most Valuable Defensive Player.
